2 yo, Female, Australian Kelpie Shepherd Dog

Anamnesis and main complain:

Narita has been living with the owners since 2-3 months of age. Regular vaccinations, regular ectoparasite and hearth-worm prophylaxis. MDR1 test was negative. Frequent generalized epileptic seizures (one every 4-6 days) since 1 yo

Therapy:

Previous therapy: Phenobarbital (3 mg/kg q12h).
New therapy: Phenobarbital (3,5 mg/kg) and Levetiracetam (20 mg/kg q8h).

Clinical Examination:

Advanced Diagnostics:

whole MRI study of the brain and Electroencephalogram. Normal morphology on MR scan of the brain. Generalized feature of seldom bilateral epileptic discharges (single spikes or spikes-and-wave).

Other diagnostic assessments:

Blood count and biochemistry, Cardiac evaluation (ECG - Echocardiography) within normal limits.

Conclusions:

Follow up:

modification of the therapeutic strategy have reduced the frequency and intensity of seizures (1 seizure every 2-3 weeks), allowing us to achieve therapeutic goals outlined in international epilepsy guidelines (IVEFT) and significantly improving the quality of life for Narita and her owners.
